To give you an idea…

Where do I need to be located?

We’re looking for hosts anywhere in New Zealand. If you’re eager to be involved in creating fun things to do for people in any of these cities (and get paid for it!), then we want to hear from you!

How much can I earn?

That depends on how many guests you can accommodate and what you price your experience at, but our hosts generally earn upwards of $100 per hour!

Are there any fees?

Yes, we take a 20% service fee per ticket for any experience or event you run. This covers our administrative labour and infrastructure. Additionally, if you want us to run paid ads for you (which we do recommend for the best chance of high ticket sales and a successful event), we will deduct any advertising costs we incur from your payment once your event concludes.

Are there any limits in terms of pricing or how many events I can host?

No, you’re welcome to price your event at whatever you think is fair, and there are no limits on how many experiences you can host with us! For health and safety reasons, guests per event is capped at 30.

What can I host?

You can host anything that is allowed at whatever venue or location you are choosing. Keep reading below for ideas! Events must align with our Terms of Service.

Why host with us?

We offer an accessible way for creators, artists, crafters, hobbyists, and anyone with an idea or aspiration, to host their own events and realise their vision, without needing to worry about all of the associated admin and yucky ins and outs of running a business.

Hosts get to simply do what they love, while making money from it!

Who can host?

Basically, anyone can! We’re especially looking for people with a strong vision for an event, workshop, or experience — if you’re passionate about sharing something with a group of guests, then we’re passionate about making your vision a reality!

Anything from culinary experiences to outdoor foraging walks, to crafty handmade workshops and board game social nights — whatever you’re thinking, we’re keen to help make it happen.

If you have any questions, or you have a brilliant idea but you aren’t quite sure how to execute it, send us an email at creativeotautahi@gmail.com or click the button below and our team would be glad to assist you.

How does hosting work?

We’re all about empowering our hosts, so we will make sure you have all the support you need as you tailor your experience, but essentially you’ll be in control. You’ll get to decide on your own experience, the times, dates, and prices that work for you.

All the funds from your ticket sales will be transferred to you upon the conclusion of your event.

Our team will be with you every step of the way as you plan out your experience, and we can even help you find venues and think of a title/event description if you’re a bit stumped.

We love helping small creators, so reach out at creativeotautahi@gmail.com and our team will be happy to walk you through getting started.

Where can I host?

You can host events anywhere in New Zealand.

New Zealand City Council venues (community centres) are great and we highly recommend these for affordable venue options for your event. Click any of the links below to browse some venues in NZ’s major cities:
Christchurch
Auckland
Wellington

Some hosts hold experiences at their house or studio. For many others, we can recommend one of our partner venues, so you’ll always be able to find the perfect space for your event. Hosts are also welcome to find their own venues or spaces for their events. Wherever your experience is held, you just need to make sure you have permission to be there.

This includes knowing the laws around hosting gatherings in certain areas, especially if things like alcohol consumption are involved. (We can assist you with applying for special alcohol licenses in this instance, as we are well-versed in this!)

The location you choose is an important factor for the overall enjoyment of an experience, so no matter where it is, make sure that you spend time prepping the site to be clean, and comfortable before your guests arrive.

Additional considerations…

When pricing experiences, it can help to think about the following: cost, similar experiences, and number of guests.

For cost, consider any out-of-pocket expenses you will incur. You should also take a look at other offerings on the Creative Otautahi website and see what other similar experiences charge. Lastly, consider the number of guests you hope to attract, as pricing should reflect that.

After an experience concludes, guests who attended your experience will be asked to provide a review.
